Inauguration Roundup

The Inter­net is bustling with news of yesterday’s inau­gu­ra­tion of Pres­i­dent Obama (it feels strange writ­ing that) and I feel some­what guilty adding to the over­abun­dance of news. As a com­pro­mise I’m going to limit myself to this sin­gle roundup post.

• One intre­pid soul has com­piled a col­lec­tion of videos of every inau­gu­ra­tion speech from the past 100 years. (via Kot­tke)

• If audio-visual isn’t your thing (or you want to go fur­ther back than 100 years), Bartleby has the text of all inau­gu­ra­tion addresses in U.S. his­tory. (via Raul Gutier­rez)

• As expected, the inau­gu­ra­tion cer­e­mony was pol­ished and passed with­out prob­lems. How­ever Obama did make one mis­take in his speech: forty-four Amer­i­cans haven’t taken the pres­i­den­tial oath, only forty-three (although there have been forty-four Pres­i­dents). • The new design for the White House web­site was updated moments after the oath was taken… and it looks a lot nicer than the old one (as this com­par­i­son of 12 years of WhiteHouse.gov shows). (Thanks to @wilstephens for alert­ing me to the change in a very timely fash­ion). Promis­ingly, third-party con­tent on the site is Cre­ative Com­mons licensed.

• Don’t for­get, the White House now also has a blog and a Twit­ter account!

• Flickr’s Inau­gu­ra­tion 2009 pool has some great pho­tos avail­able and The Big Pic­ture doesn’t dis­ap­point with its high-calibre offer­ing.

• New­seum has a large col­lec­tion of news­pa­per front pages fol­low­ing the inau­gu­ra­tion, a nice com­ple­ment to this col­lec­tion from Novem­ber 5th, fol­low­ing Obama’s elec­tion win.

• For those inter­ested, Jason com­pares WhiteHouse.gov’s robots.txt file from before and after the inau­gu­ra­tion. Geeky but amaz­ing: hope­fully a sign of things to come.

• Hun­gry? The Joint Con­gres­sional Com­mit­tee on Inau­gural Cer­e­monies is offer­ing the recipes from the inau­gural lun­cheon (pdf). Now where can I get my hands on 6 Maine lob­sters… (via Life­hacker)

• The New York Times analy­ses the text of inau­gu­ra­tion addresses past, reveal­ing the most promi­nently used words. (via Seed)
